Southeast Asia Tour Day 1

The time has come for me to start writing about my travels. It's been two years since I started living abroad and I've always procrastinated, but no more! I thought leading off with the tales of my Southeast Asia Tour would be a good starting point, and as time goes on, the blog will morph into my experiences in South Korea and some stories from Russia and the Dominican Republic. Get excited! I know I am! =)

Day 1 January 16, 2010

The adventure starts on Saturday morning and I have to decide which bus to take to the airport. One is leaving about 6 hours too early and the other leaves 20 minutes too late. Should I chance it? Hope the bus is exactly on time with no lines at the airport? Or should I just bite the bullet and get to the airport 6 hours early? Well, I decided better to be safe than sorry and left for the bus 6 hours before I needed to be. And in hindsight, very glad I did. Because the bus was 20 minutes late and it took longer than normal to get to the airport. Oh yeah, and Incheon airport is phenomenal! I got to spend 6 glorious hours there. I completely understand why this airport is continually getting rated one of world's best; it has everything, showers, resting lounges, gardens, cultural centers, Coat-drop off, and then the normal restaurants and shops, but ohhhh so much more. I'm thinking about going there just to hang out sometime. It'd be cool.

But of course, I had to see every inch of the airport, and before I had realized it, it was time to board the flight... and I was in another terminal. After sprinting through the airport, I made the gate just in time to be one of the last people on board. How embarrassed would I have been if I would have missed that flight? Probably very.

It was a pretty uneventful flight to Hong Kong, although I did get really excited when they served peanuts, yes, PEANUTS!, right after take off. I also had a meal and watched a few movies. Cathay Pacific Rocks!

Once I did get to Hong Kong however, I did have some work to do. I had to find the perfect spot to rest my little head for my overnight layover. I followed the cluster of people and found a great little bench with two seats without an armrest. Score! And after situating myself and laying down to hopefully getting some shuteye, the most unfortunate thing happened. One of the people next to me started snoring. How can some people sleep soundly anywhere!? I just don't get it. I did, however, tune it out and got into a restful state. Ahhh yes, nothing but me and my backpack! But no! Wait! Something is rumbling on the horizon! What could it be!?

Well, that something is nothing other than construction, all night long. Needless to say, I did not have a restful sleep that night. Tear.
